Amor, Guadalupe (1920—)

Mexican poet. Born in 1920 in Mexico.

Selected works:

Yo soy mi casa (I Am My House, 1946); Circulo de anguista (Circle of Anguish, 1948); Polvo (Dust, 1949); Antologia poética (Poetry Anthology, 1956); Como reina de barajas (Queen of Cards, 1966); A mí me ha dado en escriber sonetos (I Have Taken to Writing Sonnets, 1981); Soy dueña del universo (I Am the Mistress of the Universe, 1984).

Before she discovered poetry, Guadalupe Amor longed for fame and material things. She did not begin to publish until three events forced her to reexamine her values: her attempts at a stage and screen career failed, her mother died, and she lost her home. Amor looked for spiritual guidance. Through her metaphysical poetry, widely read in Mexico, she explores the human condition. Her work is included in anthologies, journals, periodicals, and more than 12 books of her own.
