Wanda of Poland (fl. 730)

Queen of Poland . Flourished in 730 in Poland; daughter of Krak, king of Poland.

Since no authenticated information is available for the period before the Kingdom of the Piasts was founded in Poland around 962, few facts remain of Wanda of Poland's life. She inherited the kingdom of Poland as the only surviving child of the powerful King Krak, who founded Krakow (Cracow). Queen Wanda spent her long and successful reign strengthening Poland's military forces, even leading battles herself at times. Poland was under an almost constant barrage of invasions from all its neighbors, particularly from the German forces of King Ridger. Wanda was a strong, intelligent, and politically acute monarch, and she successfully repelled most of her enemies.
