Secondary teacher, then head of a college of secondary education; member of the Socialist Party Executive Committee and National Council (1992–96); as a European Socialist, elected to 5th European Parliament (1999–2004). Named Knight (1992) and Officer (1999) of the Order of Academic Palms.
