Lewisohn, Alice (1883–1972)
American theater founder. Born 1883; died 1972; dau. of Leonard Lewisohn (businessman) and Rosalie (Jacobs) Lewisohn; m. Herbert E. Crowley, c. 1925; sister of Irene Lewisohn.
With sister, built the landmark Neighborhood Playhouse, which would serve as a center for experimental and avant-garde theater, producing plays by John Galsworthy, George Bernard Shaw, Eugene O'Neill, James Joyce, Sholem Asch, and Leonid Andreyev.
