Japanese speedskater. Born Oct 5, 1964, in Japan.
Won a bronze medal at World Sprint championships (1989); at World championships, won a silver (1990) and a bronze (1992), both for all-around; won a bronze medal for the 1,500 meters at Albertville Olympics (1992), the 1st Japanese woman to medal in speedskating at Winter Games; also appeared in cycling events in Seoul and Barcelona Olympics; won a seat in the Japanese Parliament, Upper House (1995).
