Gibson, Irene Langhorne (1873–1956)

The original "Gibson girl". Born in Danville, Virginia, 1873; died in 1956; 3rd child of Chiswell Dabney Langhorne (railroad developer) and Nancy Witcher Keene; sister of Nancy Witcher Astor (1879–1964); m. Charles Dana Gibson (1867–1944, one of the top illustrators of his day), 1895; children: daughter Babs.

The beauty of the Langhorne family, modeled for husband as the "Gibson girl" for 20 years; was also a founder of the Protestant Big Sisters and the New York branch of the Southern Women's Educational Alliance; as a delegate, attended 2 Democratic National Conventions.
