African-American stage, tv, and screen actress. Born July 8, 1928, in Harlem, NY; died Nov 22, 1994, in Los Angeles, California.
Best remembered for her stage performance as Adelaide in the all-black revival of Guys and Dolls (1976); also appeared in Purlie, No Place to Be Somebody and Great White Hope; films include The Great White Hope, Nine to Five, Staying Alive and Poetic Justice.
