American diarist. Born Esther Edwards, Feb 13, 1732, in Northampton, Massachusetts; died after inoculation against smallpox, April 7, 1758; dau. of Jonathan Edwards and Sarah Pierpont Edwards (both Puritans); m. Rev. Aaron Burr, Sr. (founder of Princeton University), 1752; children: Aaron Burr (1756–1836, vice president of US); grandmother of Theodosia Burr.
Addressed a journal to friend Sarah Prince, describing Puritan beliefs and frustrations of daily life in Princeton; diary was published as The Journal of Esther Edwards Burr 1754–1757 (1984).
