At Munich Olympics, won a gold medal in 1,500 meters with a time of 4:1.4, beating Albert Hill's 1920 gold medal performance by 1.4 seconds (1972); won a silver medal at European championships for 3,000 meters (1974); topped her own world record in the 3,000 meters by 18 seconds (1976), setting a new record of 8:27.1.
