Aitken, Jane (1764–1832)
Scottish-American bookbinder. Born in Paisley, Scotland, 1764; died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1832; dau. of Robert Aitken (bookbinder who published the 1st English Bible in America, 1782).
Followed in the footsteps of her father, taking over the business after his death (1802); published more than 60 books before going out of business (1813), including the Thomson Bible.
