Fusobacterium (family Bacteroidaceae) A genus of Gram-negative bacteria in which the cells are fusiform or rod-shaped and non-motile. They are chemo-organotrophic, and cannot grow in the presence of air. Species are found, for example, in the intestines of humans and other animals. They can be pathogenic, and have been isolated, for instance, from infected wounds.
