equal-area net (Schmidt-Lamber net) A stereographic net (i.e. a system of coordinates providing a two-dimensional representation of a sphere) used to display structural data in graphic form. The net is divided into 2° blocks of equal area bounded by great and small circles, and the data plotted on it refer to the orientation of features. The range of orientations and any tendency towards preferred orientation may be observed.
