Astronesthidae (snaggle tooth; subclass Actinopterygii, order Salmoniformes) A family of small, black, deep-sea fish found in tropical and temperate waters. They have well-developed fangs and a comb-toothed edge on the upper jaw. A distinct barbel is attached to the chin. There are about 27 species.
