Anaplasmataceae (order Rickettsiales) A family of bacteria in which the cells are very small and obligately parasitic (see PARASITISM) in the blood of vertebrates. They are transmitted from one host to another by arthropod vectors, e.g. ticks. Some can cause disease. There are 4 genera.
