Holy Spirit, Sisters of the
HOLY SPIRIT, SISTERS OF THE
(SHS, Official Catholic Directory #2040), a diocesan congregation founded on April 25, 1913, at Donora, Pennsylvania, by J. F. Regis Canevin, Bishop of Pittsburgh (1904 to 1920). The community follows the Rule of St. Augustine. As the number of sisters increased, larger facilities were needed, and on Aug. 14, 1926, a new motherhouse and novitiate were dedicated in West View, Pittsburgh. The sisters are principally engaged in teaching, nursing, and care of children and the aged. The motherhouse is in Ross Township, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
