Mu-chou Chʾen-tsun-su
Mu-chou Chʾen-tsun-su (Jap., Bokushū Chinsonshuku; c.780–877). Chʾan dharma-successor (hassu) of Huang-po Hsi-yün, whose abrupt methods he developed even further. Thus Yun-men attained enlightenment when he went to Mu-chou, who followed his practice of listening to the footsteps of approaching students, and of admitting them only if their steps expressed a prepared state of mind. Mu-chou's teaching was short and abrupt, and he appears in example 10 of Pi-yen-lu (see KŌAN).
