Il-yŏn or Iryŏn (1206–89). Korean Buddhist scholar-monk. He compiled the Samguk yusa (Legends and History of the Three Kingdoms), a treasury of the history of Korean Buddhism, in or about the year 1285. At the time when Confucianism was beginning to gather strength in Koryŏ (935–1392), he endeavoured to revitalize Buddhism through this literary effort.
