Harivarman
Harivarman. Buddhist scholar of the 3rd cent. CE, originally a member of one of the subschools of the Great Assembly (Mahāsaṃghikas) and perhaps also the founder of the Nominalist school (Prajñaptivāda). He composed a great Abhidharma (scholastic) treatise entitled ‘The Establishment of Truth’ (Satya-siddhi-śāstra), which now survives in Chinese alone.
In this work, which is divided in accordance with the Four Noble Truths, the author discusses a multitude of technical problems in Buddhist doctrine and rejects those opinions which are not sanctioned by scripture.
