Middleboro, town (1990 pop. 17,867), Plymouth co., SE Mass.; inc. 1669. Cranberry-processing is a major industry in the town, and fire apparatus, chemicals, and shoes are manufactured. The town was destroyed by Native Americans in King Philip's War but later rebuilt. Of interest are a Native American site believed to date from 2500 BC; restored Revolutionary industries, such as a slitting mill and an iron foundry; and the Tom Thumb historical museum. The name is also spelled Middleborough.
