Gerhart, Emanuel Vogel
Emanuel Vogel Gerhart (gâr´härt), 1817–1904, American minister of the German Reformed Church and educator, b. Freeburg, Pa. Gerhart was president of Heidelberg College (1851–55), of Franklin and Marshall College (1855–66), and of the theological seminary at Mercersburg and later at Lancaster, Pa. (1868–1904). He influenced the doctrinal development of the German Reformed Church (see Evangelical and Reformed Church).
