Bettel, Xavier
Xavier Bettel, 1973–, Luxembourg political leader. A lawyer, he entered politics in 1999 as a member of both Luxembourg City's communal council and the Chamber of Deputies. In 2011 he was elected mayor of Luxembourg City; in 2013 he became leader of the Democratic party. After the 2013 parliamentary elections, he became prime minister of a coalition government, succeeding Jean-Claude Juncker and ending more than 30 years of Christian Social People's party rule.
