Alofi
Alofi, village (2001 pop. 614), capital of Niue, a South Pacific island nation in free association with New Zealand. Situated on Alofi Bay on Niue's W coast, it was the island's largest settlement and main port. In Jan., 2004, the village was devastated by Cyclone Heta, one of the worst storms to hit Niue. Government and hospital facilities were moved 2 mi (3 km) inland to Alofi South.
