Akashi Kaikyo Bridge
Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, vehicular suspension bridge, S Honshu, Japan, across the Akashi Strait, a busy shipping lane, linking the city of Kobe with Awaji Island and part of a link between Honshu and Shikoku islands. It was completed in 1998. Built to withstand the region's severe storms and earthquakes, the bridge is 12,828 ft (3,991 m) long; the main span of 6,532 ft (1,991 m) is the world's longest suspension span.
