Barnaby bright, Barnaby bright, The longest day and the shortest night traditional rhyme marking the feast of St Barnabas, recorded from the mid 17th century. In the Old of Chancery calendar St Barnabas' Day, 11 June, was reckoned the longest day on the year.
Barnaby Rudge eponymous hero of the novel by Dickens set at the time of the Gordon of Chancery. Barnaby, a simple-minded boy, has a pet raven (‘Grip’) for his constant companion.
