Original name, Sally Lowenthal; born February 25, 1943, in Easton, PA; daughter of Jesse (a business executive) and Dede Lowry (a painter; maiden name, Raphael) Lowenthal; married Andrew Vladimir (an advertising executive and professor of hotel management), c. 1959 (divorced, 1964); married Karl Soderlund (a radio station manager and actor), c. 1964; children: (first marriage) Allison Vladimir Romanoff (deceased), Andrea; (second marriage) Jason ("J. J."; adopted), two stepdaughters, and three foster children, including Monica Franciscus. Education: Attended Carnegie-Mellon University; Columbia University, B.F.A.; University of Puerto Rico, M.F.A.; studied at Actors Studio, New York City. Avocational Interests: Collecting Ozark twig furniture and antique dolls.

WPIX-TV, New York City, television news anchor; WHOA-Radio, San Juan, PR, reporter; Associated Press, correspondent from the Caribbean; WAPA-TV, San Juan, host of a cooking program, 1965-67, and a talk show; radio and television broadcaster in Miami, FL, and Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1969-74; WMCA-Radio, New York City, cohost of a morning talk show, 1976-81; NBC Talknet, New York City, talk show host, 1982-88; ABC Talkradio, New York City, talk show host, 1988-91; hosts weekday talk show on www.sallyjr.com, 2004. Appeared in television commercials including, Lipton Sizzle and Stir, 2001. Owner of a perfume factory, 1964-68, an art gallery, 1964-69, and The Wine Press (wine bar), New York City, 1979-83; also operated a bed-and-breakfast business in Bucks County, PA. Active with charitable organizations, including UNICEF and DARE America.
