Description:

State-supported, comprehensive, coed. Part of University of Alaska System. Awards associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. Founded 1972. Setting: 198-acre small town campus. Community Environment:

Situated on the shores of scenic Auke Lake, with the famous Mendenhall Glacier in clear sight, the main campus is only a few miles from the heart of downtown Juneau, the capital of Alaska. Nestled between 4,000-foot snow-capped peaks on one side and the sparkling water of Gastineau Channel on the other, Juneau was the first Alaskan city founded after the American purchase of Alaska in 1867. The city is centrally located in the Tongass National Forest, the nation's largest. The combined city and borough encompass 3,108 square miles of land, ranging from tundra, to moss-draped forests, to wind-blown mountain peaks. Juneau's population is approximately 30,000 and provides numerous cultural, academic, and professional opportunities.
