Description:

Independent, comprehensive, coed. Awards associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. Founded 1884. Setting: 400-acre small town campus. Endowment: $16.8 million. Educational spending 2003-04: $6218 per student. Total enrollment: 1,232. Faculty: 95 (73 full-time, 22 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 14:1. 1,585 applied, 76% were admitted. 18% from top 10% of their high school class, 45% from top quarter, 78% from top half. 6 valedictorians. Full-time: 1,021 students, 32% women, 68% men. Part-time: 204 students, 65% women, 35% men. Students come from 23 states and territories, 17 other countries, 40% from out-of-state, 0.3% Native American, 1% Hispanic, 3% black, 1% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 1% international, 7% 25 or older, 48% live on campus, 5% transferred in. Costs Per Year:

Application fee: $20. Comprehensive fee: $26,200 includes full-time tuition ($20,200) and college room and board ($6000). Part-time tuition: $630 per semester hour.

Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 35 open to all; national fraternities, local sororities; 25% of eligible men and 15% of eligible women are members. Most popular organizations: Circle K, Drama Club, International Student Association, student newspaper, student radio station. Major annual event: Homecoming. Student services: personal-psychological counseling. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices and patrols, late night transport-escort service. 601 college housing spaces available; 570 were occupied in 2003-04. Freshmen guaranteed college housing. On-campus residence required through sophomore year. Option: coed housing available. Perry Ford Library with 73,859 books, 1,338 microform titles, 359 serials, 1,429 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page. Operations spending 2003-04: $276,432. 150 computers available on campus for general student use. A campuswide network can be accessed from student residence rooms and from off campus. Staffed computer lab on campus.

Community Environment:

Angola, population 6,000, is situated at the intersection of U.S. Highways 20, 27, I-69 and the Indiana Toll Road. The city has a small airport. Recreational facilities include three golf courses, including one located on the Tri-State campus, Pokagon State Park five miles north, and many miles of shoreline surrounding more than 100 spring-fed lakes.
