Description: Independent, 4-year, coed. Part of The Claremont Colleges Consortium. Awards bachelor's degrees. Founded 1887. Setting: 140-acre suburban campus with easy access to Los Angeles. Endowment: $1 billion. Research spending 2002-03: $1.7 million. Total enrollment: 1,555. Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 8:1. 4,539 applied, 21% were admitted. 84% from top 10% of their high school class, 91% from top quarter, 100% from top half. 66 National Merit Scholars, 9 class presidents, 47 valedictorians, 65 student government officers. Costs Per Year: Application fee: $60. Comprehensive fee: $37,130 includes full-time tuition ($26,890), mandatory fees ($260), and college room and board ($9980). Room and board charges vary according to board plan. Part-time tuition: $4485 per course.
Collegiate Environment: Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 280 open to all; local fraternities, local coed fraternities; 6% of men are members. Most popular organizations: student government, music/choral organizations, service organizations, intramural sports.
