Harold K. Douhhit Regional Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance for students from Northern Ohio. Focus: Journalism. Qualif.: Applicants must have graduated from a high school in Cuyahog, Lo-rain, Huron, Erie, Wood, Geauga, Sandusky, Ottawa or Lucas county; must be enrolled as sophomores, juniors or seniors at an Ohio college or university; must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B); and must clearly demonstrate ability to write. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form typed or printed legibly by the applicant; official university or college transcript; an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic and career interests, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism-related activities; and two letters of recommendation from college or university faculty members familiar with the student's work and career interests, with special emphasis on the student's financial need. Ohio Newspaper Association Minority Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance for minority high school seniors in Ohio intending to pursue a newspaper journalism career. Focus: Journalism. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating seniors at an Ohio high school; must be enrolled as college freshmen at an Ohio college or university; must have a minimum high school grade point average of 2.5 (C+); must clearly demonstrate ability to write; and must be African American, Hispanic, Asian American or American Indian. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form typed or printed legibly by the applicant; an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic and career interest, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism-related activities; and two letters of recommendation from high school faculty members familiar with the student's work and career interests. Ohio Newspaper Association University Journalism Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance for students demonstrating a career commitment to newspaper journalism. Focus: Journalism. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled as sophomores, juniors or seniors at an Ohio college or university; must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (C+); and must clearly demonstrate ability to write. Criteria: Preference will be given to students demonstrating a career commitment to newspaper journalism.

To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form typed or printed legibly by the applicant; official college or university transcript; an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic and career interests, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism-related activities (emphasis should be given to newspaper or print journalism); two letters of recommendation from college or university faculty members familiar with the student's work and career interests; and writing samples or articles that have been published.
