Helen Bassett Commemorative Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for students intending to pursue their law careers. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicants must be post-secondary students, specifically Aboriginal females, pursuing a law career; must be under 31 years old; must demonstrate financial need; and must demonstrate commitment to improving the situation of Aboriginal women and youth in Canada politically, culturally, economically or otherwise. Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on financial need and academic standing.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 4. To Apply: Applicants must submit application form, proof of age, and proof of Aboriginal descent; must have a proof of attending post-secondary studies: acceptance letter from a post-secondary institution; must have the most recent official transcript, proof of community involvement/interest and dedication in working on Aboriginal women's issues; one reference letter of support from a local community organization, or school, or any relevant organization/person; must

provide a short essay of 1-2 pages, and statement of financial need in a letter, plus monthly or yearly budget and a list of other funding sources and scholarships. Application form and all other required documents must be sent to CDC-Youth Native Women's Association of Canada, 1292 Wellington St., W, Ottawa, ON K1Y 3A9. Deadline: July 11.
