It is devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and management. This accreditation places Marist among the top 30 percent of business programs in the country. Marist is proud to be among the 515 colleges, universities, and institutions of higher education worldwide accredited by AACSB International.

Marist's M.B.A. and M.P.A. programs provide an outstanding mix of quality, convenience, and flexibility. Students for whom regularly scheduled on-site classes are difficult may pursue equally challenging graduate course work at their convenience from anywhere in the world.

Delivery Media

Cutting-edge instructional technology enables students to interact extensively with their instructors and classmates. Communication is ongoing via e-mail, bulletin boards, group conference rooms, or private chat rooms.

A personal computer with a Pentium 166 processor, 32 megabytes of RAM, a 28.8K modem (56K recommended), and access to the World Wide Web via Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or higher) or Netscape (version 4.7 or higher) is essential. To ensure compatibility in reading attached files and sharing work with classmates, students also need Microsoft Office 97 or higher. Technical skills beyond familiarity with the basic Windows environment are not needed.

Programs of Study

Marist's online graduate programs in business administration and public administration are available to students worldwide. Candidates for either program must meet the admissions criteria required by that program and must have completed a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. International applicants must submit official TOEFL scores for admission.

Marist's M.B.A. is designed to cultivate managers who are capable of effective decision making in today's complex business environment. Emphasis is placed on the management process and the behavioral influences that significantly affect the success of modern organizations. Graduates of the program possess the strategic perspective that is necessary to identify opportunities and risks in a rapidly changing economic environment. Course requirements consist of a combination of foundation, core, and elective courses designed to develop the professional analytical, communication, and leadership skills needed to keep pace with the competitive demands of a global economy.

Marist's M.P.A. is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective public-sector and not-for-profit program management.

The curriculum stresses the ethical, legal, and social context of administration. Graduates are proficient in understanding and developing positive organizational behavior and effectively utilizing a full range of management and administrative techniques to solve problems, address issues, and lead important programs.

Credit Options

The M.B.A. program requires a minimum of 30 credit hours, with a maximum of 51 credit hours, for the degree. Up to 21 credits of foundation courses may be waived, based on prior graduate or undergraduate study. Transfer credits are not applicable to foundation course work. Instead, particular foundation requirements are waived on the basis of prior study.

Transfer of credits into the M.B.A. or M.P.A. program requires the prior approval of the program director. Up to 6 graduate credits may be transferred from an AACSB International–accredited graduate program to satisfy graduate core and/or elective requirements. Criteria considered in awarding transfer credit include the grade received (must be B–or higher), the level of the course in the program at which it was taken, and the course content. Transfer credit is awarded for core courses only if the course is substantially equivalent to the Marist course requirement.

Faculty

The Marist College faculty comprises highly experienced, credentialed educators, many of whom are skilled professionals with practical hands-on experience in corporate, government, not-for-profit, and community settings. Faculty members regularly take part in research, publishing, and consulting and are frequently called upon by various organizations and institutions for their expertise in their given academic areas.

Admission

The M.B.A. and M.P.A. programs are concerned with the interest, aptitude, and capacity of a prospective student, as indicated in the applicant's previous academic record, achievement on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), and past professional achievement and growth. Each applicant's credentials are evaluated on an individual basis. Specific requirements for admission and completion vary by program. All applicants must submit a completed graduate application, the application fee, official transcripts for all prior undergraduate and graduate institutions attended, and a current resume. M.B.A. candidates must also submit two completed recommendation forms as well as responses to essay questions. A personal statement is required of M.P.A. candidates. The GMAT/GRE is waived for applicants who already hold a master's degree.
