Diamond, Abel Joseph
Diamond, Abel Joseph (1932– ). South-African-born, ‘Jack’ Diamond became one of Canada's most influential architects. His buildings are exemplary in their detail and finishes. He and his partner (from 1969 to 1974), Barton Myers, became known as enemies of badly sited high-rise developments. The firm designed the Wolf House, Toronto (1975), conceived as a prototype for a row- or terrace-house unit; the Citadel Theatre, Edmonton (1976); and the Housing Union Building, University of Alberta (1972), all of which are impeccably detailed and crisply planned. Among recent works is the Richmond Hill Central Library, Ontario (1993).
