seek time The time taken for a particular track on a storage disk or drum to be located. The average seek time is defined as the sum of all single track seek times plus the sum of two track seek times and so on…, divided by the sum of all possible seeks. Typical average seek times for disks are in the range 8–20 milliseconds. See also latency, access time.
