Connection Machine Trademark A parallel processor in which many processor-memory pairs – small computers – operate simultaneously. Central to the machine is a communication network that permits the small computers to exchange information in a pattern suited to the algorithm being executed. The Connection Machine marketed in 1994 could yield a sustained performance of 20 Gflops from a 512 processor configuration. Peak performance is higher but gives little guide to useful computational power. Particular areas of application include image processing, information retrieval, graphics, artificial intelligence, finite element analysis, and fluid flow.
