capitate (kap-i-tayt) adj. head-shaped; having a rounded extremity. c. bone the largest bone of the wrist (see carpus). It articulates with the scaphoid and lunate bones behind, with the second, third, and fourth metacarpal bones in front, and with the trapezoid and hamate laterally.
