In What Goes Up: The Uncensored History of Modern Wall Street as Told by the Bankers, Brokers, CEOs, and Scoundrels Who Made It Happen he "presents an exceptional history of modern Wall Street," according to Library Journal contributor Caroline Geck. Through interviews with a wide variety of important business figures, Weiner provides an honest and multifaceted look at approximately thirty coups or crises that helped shape the business climate of the late twentieth century. The subjects of these interviews include such major dealmakers as David Rockefeller and Warren Buffet, but also "the barber in the basement of the stock exchange who was privy to so much information," as Booklist reviewer Mary Whaley noted. "The candor of many of the quotes is often surprising and refreshing," reported Cecil Johnson in the Boston Globe. "Weiner has done an excellent job of letting the history unfold from the mouths of those who made it." At the same time, commented a Kirkus Reviews contributor, "This oral history offers object lessons from the past and plenty of warnings for the squeamish."
