SIDELIGHTS: Russian-born Alla Svirinskaya studied traditional medicine before deciding to become a healer like the five generations of her family before her. She provides guidance at retreats and to private clients, and in her book, Energy Secrets: The Ultimate Well-Being Plan, she advises readers on diet, exercise, and therapies that will create the positive chi necessary for good health. Library Journal reviewer Marge Kars felt that Svirinskaya's "compellingly written and informative book provides a balanced view of this alternative healing approach."

Bioenergy healing is considered an alternative form of medicine in the United States, but the understanding of energy flow is a basic part of the traditional medicine of other cultures, particularly in Asia. In Energy Secrets, Svirinskaya offers guidance on the proper use of saunas, the preferred way to drink water, and other routines that will cleanse and renew the organs and promote health and well-being. Among Svirinskaya's devotees is Sarah Ferguson, duchess of York, who wrote the foreword to the book. A Kirkus Reviews contributor wrote: "So out of the ordinary is Svirinskaya's approach, simply acting upon her advice will turn your head around."
