PASSANTINO, Robert Louis 1951-2003


OBITUARY NOTICE—See index for CA sketch: Born August 11, 1951, in NJ; died of a heart attack, November 17, 2003, in Newport Beach, CA. Minister and author. An expert on religious cults, Passantino was cofounder, along with his wife, Gretchen, of the Christian evangelical center Answers in Action. While attending college at Orange Coast College and, later, Santa Ana College in the mid-1970s, he worked as a research associate for the Christian Research Institute. He and his wife then founded Christian Apologetics: Research and Information Service (CARIS), which later came to be known as the Answers in Action ministry. As codirector, Passantino counseled children and adults about the dangers of religious cults, and he wrote and edited several books on the subject. Three of his works about cults, written with his wife, include Answers to the Cultist at Your Door (1980), When the Devil Dares Your Kids: Protecting Your Children from Satanism, Witchcraft, and the Occult (1991), and Satanism (1995).
