SIDELIGHTS:

Nataly E. Kelly told CA: "I write primarily on issues of language and culture, especially as they relate to the professions of interpreting and translation. My book on telephone interpreting is the first book-length publication devoted to the subject. My goal is to spread greater awareness of language services to enable individuals to communicate with each other. I am particularly interested in new technologies that enable language services to be accessed virtually, such as digital video and audio transmission.

"I lived several years in Quito, Ecuador, where I completed much of my undergraduate study as well as my graduate studies. My time in Ecuador enabled me to understand more about the role of language in society.

"As a writer, my goal is to share information and communicate with others. Interestingly, my writing centers on interpreters and translators, whose goal is to facilitate communication. With such fascinating subject matter, there are endless topics to explore in this field through writing and research."
