SIDELIGHTS:

Faith Hunter's first novel, Bloodring, is set in an alternate universe where a series of plagues have decimated the population, and the planet is covered in ice. A war between good and evil continues to ravage Earth, with humans caught in the middle between demons and seraphs. Certain humans have special abilities that classify them as "neomages," and one such human, Thorn St. Croix, struggles to hide her abilities in order to maintain her freedom. Frieda Murray, in a review for Booklist, called the book a "very professionally executed, tasty blend of dark fantasy, mystery, and romance." Writing for Kliatt, contributor Cara Chancellor praised Hunter's originality, noting that the book "departs from the usual fantasy realm, but Hunter's enchanting narration makes the reader hope she will return to this apocalyptic world again—and soon!" Hunter revisits her original realm in her follow-up effort, Seraphs.
