PERSONAL:

Born February 3, 1832, in Preston, CT; died December 24, 1915, in South Orange, NJ; son of Joseph H. and Frances (Treat) Doane.

CAREER:

Doane & Treat Co. (manufacturers of woodworking tools), bookkeeper, beginning 1848; J. A. Fay Co., Cincinnati, OH, president and general manager, 1861-1910. Holder of more than seventy patents for machinery, including work exhibited at Paris Exposition, 1889. Writer of hymns; philanthropist.
