Xyndas, Spyridon, Greek composer; b. Corfu, June 8, 1812; d. Athens, Nov. 12, 1896. He studied in Italy. He composed many attractive popular Greek songs, several operas to Italian librettos (II Conte Giuliano, I due pretendenti, etc.), and The Parliamentary Candidate (Athens, March 1888), which was probably the first opera with a Greek text. He became blind toward the end of his life..
