Ward, Joseph (b Preston, 1932). Eng. tenor, singing teacher, and producer. Created Starveling in A Midsummer Night's Dream, 1960. As bar., sang Billy Budd in f.p. rev. vers. of opera in BBC broadcast 1960. CG début 1962. Tutor in Sch. of Vocal Studies, RNCM, 1972–92 (Head from 1986, dir. of opera from 1989). At RNCM prod. several operas. incl. The Pilgrim's Progress. OBE 1992.
