Thomas, Gary (Daniel)
Thomas, Gary (Daniel), jazz tenor saxophonist, flutist; b. Baltimore, June 10, 1961. At 12 he asked for the easiest instrument and was advised to begin classical flute. He later took up the tenor and played in dance and rock bands. In 1986, he toured with Dejohnette, then Miles Davis, then returned to Dejohnette and began recording regularly as a sideperson for Michele Rosewoman, Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, guitarist Christy Doran, among others. He also recorded as a leader.
