St Florian
St Florian. Monastery near Linz, Austria, founded c.1070. Has long and strong mus. tradition. Building was reconstructed in Baroque style from 1686 to 1750 with new org. built by F. X. Chrismann, later enlarged to 4 manuals, 103 registers, and 7,343 pipes. Bruckner was born near St Florian, was a choirboy there and was taught mus. by the monks. Org. there 1848–56. Often revisited St Florian and is buried there. Org. known as ‘Bruckner Organ’.
