Silk, Dorothy (Ellen)
Silk, Dorothy (Ellen), English soprano; b. King’s Norton, Worcestershire, May 4, 1883; d. Alvechurch, Worcestershire, July 30, 1942. She studied in Birmingham and with Johannes Ress in Vienna. She pursued a fine career as a concert artist, appearing in London and at major English festivals. She also made forays into opera. In addition to her performances of works by English composers, she programmed the music of Schütz and other rarely heard composers.
