Rothmüller, Marko (Aron) (b Trnjani, 1908; d Bloomington, Ind., 1993). Croatian baritone. Opera début Altona, nr. Hamburg, 1932 (Ottokar in Der Freischütz). Zagreb Opera 1933–8, Zurich Opera 1938–47, CG 1939 and 1948–55, Vienna Opera 1945–8, NY City Opera 1948–52, Met 1959–64. First stage Wozzeck in Eng. (CG 1952, cond. Kleiber). Created Truchsess in Mathis der Maler, Zurich 1938. Glyndebourne début (Edinburgh Fest.) 1949, at Glyndebourne 1951. Joined faculty of Univ. of Indiana, Bloomington, 1955–79, Rubin Acad. of Mus., Jerusalem 1981–2. Also a fine Lieder singer.
