Poldqwski (pen name of Irene Regine Wieniawska; by marriage, Lady Dean Paul) , Polish-English composer, daughter of Henryk Wieniawski; b. Brussels, March 18, 1879; d. London, Jan. 28, 1932. She studied at the Brussels Cons. with Gevaert, and later in London with Percy Pitt. She married Sir Aubrey Dean Paul, and then took additional courses in composition with Gédalge and d’Indy in Paris. She began writing songs to French words, in the impressionist style, setting to music 21 poems by Paul Verlaine, and 8 poems by others. She also composed Caledonian Market, a suite of 8 pieces for Piano, Berceuse de l’enfant mourant for Violin and Piano, Tango for Violin and Piano, Suite miniature de chansons à danser for Woodwind Instruments, 2 symphonic sketches (Nocturnes and Tenements), and an operetta, Laughter.
