Norup, Bent
Norup, Bent, Danish baritone; b. Hobro, Dec. 7, 1936. He received vocal training in Copenhagen from Kristan Rils, in Munich from Karl Schmitt-Walter, and in N.Y. from Herta Sperber. In 1970 he made his operatic debut in Copenhagen as Kurwenal, where he subsequently sang at the Royal Theater. He also made guest appearances in Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Paris, Vienna, and the U.S. His concert engagements took him to leading music centers of the world. Among his roles of note were Hans Sachs, Wotan, Telramund, Klingsor, Amfortas, Jochanaan, lago, and Scarpia.
