Mullova, Viktoria

Mullova, Viktoria, Russian violinist; b. Moscow, Nov. 27, 1959. She began violin lessons in childhood and made her public debut as soloist in Vieutemps’s 5thConcerto when she was 12. She studied in Moscow with Bronin at the Central Music School (1969–78) and with Kogan at the Moscow Cons. She won 1st prize in the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki in 1981 and took the Gold Medal in the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982. She then left Russia to pursue an international career, touring as a concert recitalist and appearing as soloist with major orchs.
